How to Use Instagram to Promote Your Interior Design Business

Instagram is changing the game for interior designers - especially those that are up and coming. It is important to have an excellent Instagram presence for your business in order to create great first impressions from clients and businesses who may want to collaborate with you. Instagram is an easily accessible visual portfolio that provides clients with a quick glance into how you may be able to help them achieve their vision. In order to capture the attention of potential clients or potential collaborators, follow these tips:

#1: Clarify what you do

In your bio, ensure that you have a list of the services you provide and showcase your role in designing spaces. This is the first place a potential client or collaborator will look at to see whether your firm is a suitable fit. For example, do you select finishes, choose paint colours, pick out decor items, select the lighting, or maybe all the above? List these out and include a link to your website that provides more information.

#2: Have a theme

Plan out monthly themes for your posts and make sure you relate all of your content to these themes for consistency. This is better than sticking to just one overall theme as it broadens your content scope and, in turn, your audience.

#3: Rule of thirds

Your content should follow the rule of thirds and include imagery that is:

  • ⅓ about the business

  • ⅓ about design trends

  • ⅓ about partners in the industry

#4: Instagram Stories

While it is important to create a visually-appealing aesthetic feed on your Instagram page, you also want to show off more behind-the-scenes (BTS) work. For those types of posts, utilize the Instagram Stories feature. BTS content gives audiences a peek into your business and enables them to see what they wouldn’t otherwise, building both interest and trust.

Now that you have more of an idea of the themes you want to go with, as well as the content to include for each theme, it is time to start actually posting. Stay tuned for our next part in this series which will discuss what to actually include in a post.
